Natural habitats in Colombia
Good afternoon everyone I will share some Colombian habitats that should include in your list of visits to wonderful places:
1. Amacayacu
The Amacayacu National Natural Park, is located in the department of Amazonas. In this jungle there are more than five thousand species of plants and their forests are representative of a region where there is the greatest diversity of primates in the world. In this park there is also the pink dolphin and the manatee.
2. Chingaza
The Chingaza National Natural Park is a natural and cultural treasure of central Colombia. The magic of its mountains keeps secrets and thoughts inherited from Los Muiscas and the Guayupes, indigenous peoples who guarded this territory, as well as from peasant communities that inhabited the region less than 40 years ago.
3. El Cocuy
El Cocuy National Natural Park. It is the largest glacier mass in Colombia made up of more than 25 peaks covered with ice and snow. It has one hundred and fifty lagoons, it also has moors and a large strip of Andean forest and basal jungle that host a great diversity of species of fauna and flora.
4. Gorgona
The Gorgona National Natural Park is made up of two islands, Gorgona and Gorgonilla. It has been called ‘Science Island’ because of the amount of information it has given researchers to understand ecosystems and for the effective management of the protected area.
5. Iguaque
In this Sanctuary is the sacred lagoon of Iguaque which, according to Muisca mythology, is the cradle of humanity. There are a total of seven lagoons of glacial origin in the Sanctuary.
6. Los Nevados
The imposing Los Nevados National Natural Park is located in the Coffee Zone, where there is the Nevado del Ruiz, Nevado de Santa Isabel and Nevado del Tolima. The Park is the heart of the Colombian coffee region. The rivers that descend from its snowy peaks and its moors, irrigate agricultural land and nourish the aqueducts of cities, towns and villages in the center of the country.
7. Otún-Quimbaya
The Otún Quimbaya Shrine is located in the department of Risaralda. Nearly 90% of the protected area corresponds to natural forests, in different states of succession, and mature forests.
8. Salamanca
The Island of Salamanca received the denomination ‘Vía Parque’ because it allows the visitor to contemplate mangrove forests, marshes and exceptional beaches from the highway that connects Barranquilla with Santa Marta.
9. Sumapaz
The Sumapaz National Natural Park is one of the highest mountain sites rich in Colombian genera and species, as it has a large number of organisms, many of them endemic that make the Park an important reservoir of biological, ecological and genetic diversity.
10. Tayrona
The foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the highest coastal mountain in the world, sink into the sea like the fingers of a gigantic hand between which bays and coves of singular beauty are formed: Chengue, Gayraca, Cinto, Neguanje, Concha, Guachaquita, with its white sand beaches bounded by, mangroves, thickets or forests, and all bathed by the crystalline waters of the Caribbean Sea, are part of the many attractions offered by the Tayrona National Natural Park.
